Hello, I'm Alexia Taylor, the face behind The Geo Tutor. I am an experienced Geography tutor based just outside of The Lake District in Cumbria. I am committed to making Geography an engaging and accessible subject for all. With a passion for Geography and education, I've dedicated my career to helping students navigate the exciting world of Geography, both in the UK and around the globe.

I believe that a good education should be personalised, flexible and affordable. That's why at The Geo Tutor, I provide a tailored approach to each and every student. I understand that each learner is unique and thus requires a unique approach to learning. With this in mind, I adapt my teaching methods to meet the needs and learning styles of my students, ensuring they receive the most out of each lesson.

Whilst based in Cumbria, I offer in-person lessons for local students, creating an interactive and hands-on learning environment. The geographical boundaries don't limit my teaching capabilities. With the power of technology and the internet, I also provide online Geography lessons through Google Meet, Teams or Zoom, reaching out to students across the UK and internationally. The virtual classroom allows for real-time interaction, ensuring that students receive the same level of engagment and support as in face-to-face sessions. Students from China, Kenya and Switzerland have studied through the virtual classroom.

Students have access to a wealth of resources, including study materials, revision guides and interactive modules. Use of drone camera footage will bring fieldwork to life and provide aerial imaging of key geographical landscapes. Whether it's understanding complex geographical theories or grasping the intricacies of physical and human geography, I'm here to guide you every step of the way.

I am firm in my belief that quality education should not be a luxury but a standard. This conviction drives my commitment to offering affordable tutoring options without compromising the quality of instruction. Through The Geo Tutor, I aim to make comprehensive, high-quality Geography education accessible to everyone, regardless of their location or circumstances.

Policy Summary

This policy sets out how The Geo Tutor will meet the statutory requirements for safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults at risk of harm or abuse.

This policy aims to ensure that:

• no act or omission by The GeoTutor puts a service user at risk

• rigorous systems are in place to proactively safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults

• Training and continuing professional development takes place so that I have an understanding of my role and responsibilities

Safeguarding Duty of Care.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and youngpeople is defined as:

• Protecting children from maltreatment
• Preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development
• Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and
• Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

Abuse is a form of maltreatment of a child. Somebody may abuse or neglect a child by inflicting harm or by failing to act to prevent
harm. Children may be abused in a family or in an institutional or community setting by those known to them or, more rarely, by others. Abuse can take place wholly online, or technology may be used to facilitate offline abuse. Children may be abused by an adult or adults or by another child or children (KCSIE,2022, para 26).

Responsibilities of The Geo Tutor:

· To undertake appropriate training and certification in safeguarding (current Level 2 Advanced Safeguarding certificate expires August 2026)

· To register my Enhanced DBS on the update service

· To follow correct procedures when reporting safeguarding concerns

Disclosure

If there are safeguarding concerns, I will:

• Encourage the child/young person to talk, without prompting, asking leading questions, or interruption.
• Reassure the child/young person that they can disclose anything that is worrying them, but that I cannot promise not to tell other parties to ensure their safety.
• Explain the actions I must take as a consequence of their disclosure, in a way that is appropriate to the age and understanding of the child/young person.
• Record (write down) what I have been told, as soon as I can, using exact words where possible.
• Record (write down) and make a note of the date, time, place and people who were present during the disclosure.
• Ensure I have made a safeguarding referral regarding this child/young person as soon as possible. This referral could be to the relevant local authority, the police, the NSPCC, or to another appropriate body.

If I am concerned that the child is in immediate danger I will call the police.
